Love Languages & Words of Affirmation: Speaking Life into Your Spirit
There’s something powerful about the words we speak—over ourselves, over others, and most importantly, in our relationship with God.
Words shape our reality, and in the journey of faith, they serve as a bridge between our hearts and God’s truth.
Recently, I reflected on a conversation with my younger self over coffee, a moment that reminded me of how much I once longed for affirmation. I wanted to know I was on the right path, that things would work out, and that I was truly loved. Many of us still desire that today. And while we seek affirmation from people, we often forget that God’s words are the ultimate source of life, love, and encouragement.
1. Words of Affirmation: Speaking God's Truth Over Your Life
In the Bible, we see the importance of speaking words that align with God’s will:
📖 “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” — Proverbs 18:21
Your words hold weight. When you speak God's truth over your life, you shift your mindset, renew your faith, and walk in confidence knowing that what God has said about you is the highest authority.
Example:
Affirmation: “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:14)
Affirmation: “I am loved with an everlasting love.” (Jeremiah 31:3)
Affirmation: “God is working all things together for my good.” (Romans 8:28)
2. Activity: Write a Love Letter to God
One way to practice words of affirmation in your faith is by writing a love letter to God. This isn’t just about thanking Him, but also affirming who He is and what He has promised.
📖 “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.” — Psalm 19:14
Try This:
Write down your praises to God.
Express gratitude for what He has done.
Declare His promises over your life.
Use scriptures that speak to your current season.
Final Thought: Love & The Power of Words
In the same way I reassured my younger self over coffee, God affirms us daily through His Word—we just need to listen and repeat it over ourselves. If you've ever doubted God's love, remember: His love is unwavering, unchanging, and unconditional.
So today, how will you speak life over yourself?
How will you affirm God’s love in your life?
