What You Think Matters: A December Reflection on Proverbs 4:23
A verse we often read quickly, but today it hit differently.
Partly because we’re in that reflective, end-of-year stretch…
And partly because I’ve been having so many conversations lately with people who feel worn out by 2025.
Yes — this has been a year of grace.
But sometimes grace shows up not on mountaintops, but in valleys, chaos, turmoil, and “What is even happening right now?” seasons.
And somehow, by God’s mercy, we made it through both the battles and the blessings.
For me personally, this year held some wild moments — the kind that tried my faith, stretched my emotions, tested my boundaries, and pulled me into some uncomfortable truths about who I am and who God is shaping me to be.
But this year also held some wildly beautiful things — moments of joy, new beginnings, surprising favour, quiet breakthroughs, unexpected provision.
So I am choosing — intentionally — to think on those things.
Because the scripture that whispers, “Be careful what you think,” sits hand-in-hand with another one many of us know, even if we can’t place the exact reference:
“As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.”
And another:
“Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely… think on these things.”
Your thoughts are not passive.
Your thoughts are not background noise.
Your thoughts are not harmless.
Your thoughts shape your inner world, and your inner world shapes your life.
🌿 December Doesn’t Have to Be a Crash Landing
There are people who feel like the year has wrung them out dry — mentally, emotionally, spiritually.
And honestly? It makes sense.
If January 1st to December 8th has felt like “the wild, wild west,” if this year held moments that left you feeling bruised, confused, or stretched thin, if you’re tempted to check out and say, “See you on January 1st, 2026 — I’m done”… I understand.
But I want to offer you something gentler, something grounded in scripture:
Don’t sprint into 2026 carrying the weight you never processed in 2025.
Vision boards won’t heal what the heart is hiding.
New Year’s resolutions can’t fix December’s unspoken pain.
A fresh calendar doesn’t erase an unchanged mindset.
There’s no point planning a glowing, flourishing 2026
if your heart is still bleeding from something that happened on March 23rd, 2025.
✨ So Here Is the Invitation December Is Offering You:
Whether you’re observing Advent, reading through the Gospel of Luke, or simply catching your breath at the end of a long year…
Ask God for:
• realisation — What do I need to finally see clearly?
• healing — What still hurts that I’ve been afraid to bring to You?
• learning — What lessons did this year quietly teach me?
• surrendering — What am I still gripping that is holding me back?
Because 2025 doesn’t have to bleed into 2026.
The unresolved doesn’t have to travel with you.
Your thoughts don’t have to spiral.
Your spirit doesn’t have to drag itself across the finish line.
God is still here.
Still speaking.
Still healing.
Still centering your heart again.
Above all else — guard your heart.
Guard your thoughts.
Guard your mind.
Because your thoughts shape your life — and this December, God is shaping your thoughts.
Happy New Year in advance!
