December Isn’t a Deadline — It’s Where We De-Centre the Noise and Re-Centre God
I had a moment recently — one of those quiet, inconvenient ones — where I realised:
It was the 2nd of December, and I felt overwhelmed.
Black Friday passed. Cyber Monday passed.
Not a single sale.
And my flesh took that personally.
But then the Holy Spirit whispered, “This month is not about performance. It’s about re-centering.”
December has a way of making us feel like we’re crawling to the finish line.
Not because we’re unproductive — but because we’ve carried a year’s worth of emotions, expectations, and responsibilities… often without resting in God as deeply as we needed to.
But here’s what I’ve been learning through prayer, scripture, and even the gentle conviction of last night’s sermon by Pastor Stephanie Ike-Okafor (“Don’t Waste Your Life”):
December is the month where God invites us to de-centre the things that have drained us,
and re-centre the One who restores us.
🌿 What I’m De-Centering This December
Not out of avoidance, but out of obedience.
I’m de-centering:
• the pressure to perform
• the disappointment of unmet expectations
• the weight of comparison
• the frustration of slow growth
• the internal narratives that tell me, “You’re behind”
Because none of these things nourish the spirit.
They drain it.
And the truth is, God never asked me to carry that weight in the first place.
What He did ask was:
“Come to Me. I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
How Jesus Dealt With Stress
When Jesus was pressed, overwhelmed, questioned, followed, needed —
He withdrew.
He prayed.
He rested.
He ate intentionally.
He surrounded Himself with community.
And when I look at my own life, especially these past few days, I realise those are the exact pillars my spirit is craving.
🌸 What I’m Re-Centering This December
• intimacy with God
• conversations that nourish my soul
• meals that bring me joy
• rest that restores me
• community that strengthens me
• gratitude for what’s already in my hands
• peace that isn’t rushed or performative
This is the real work of the month.
Not productivity.
Not sales.
Not milestones.
Just presence.
🕊️ A Closing Thought
If you’re reading this and you feel like you’re limping into December —
you’re not failing.
You’re human.
And December is not a punishment.
It’s a sanctuary.
Let this be the month where you gently release the weight you’ve been carrying,
and take hold of the rest, restoration, and renewal God has been saving for you.
De-centre the noise.
Re-centre God.
Nourish your spirit.
